ABC – Get to know me

February 20, 2012 in Blog

This isn’t usually the type of thing I do, but as my network of Mail Art friends grows I’m finding that many need to know a little bit more about me, so that they can send me packages filled with things that I’ll love and enjoy. So, inspired by new friend Saylor Made, here’s a quick ABC about me… Age: 27 (almost 28!) Bed Size: Double Chore you hate: Hoovering the stairs Dogs: Not any more! One cat though. Essential start of your day: A big cup of tea Favourite Colour: Orange, Blue and Red Gold or silver: Silver Height: [...]

The Sun Shines! – My Shipshape Studio prize

February 10, 2012 in Blog, Slideshow

Last Thursday I discovered that I was the lucky winner of Shipshape Studio’s first celebratory giveaway, celebrating the launch of their new shop. The prize that would soon be on its way to me was a copy of Pip Lincolne’s  Make Hey! While the Sun Shines. I didn’t know much about the book, other than it’s packed full of crafty inspiration and projects, but as it’s worth £17.99, and the competition was open worldwide, I never expected I’d actually win, especially as the little rafflecopter widget tells me there were 99 entries. So when I received the email on Thursday, while in [...]

PRD 2003

February 4, 2012 in Blog

After my A-levels I spent a year doing an art & design foundation course at GCADT (Glamorgan Centre of Art & Design Technology), during which we were told to keep a PRD, aka a Personal Reflective Diary. In my PRD I wrote about the projects I worked on, the artists I studied and the places I visited, with a few sketches thrown in along the way. This afternoon I found my PRD inside a long forgotten, buried box in my mum’s back room. Having spent the rest of the afternoon reading through it and marvelling at the effort I clearly [...]

Rafflecopter

January 24, 2012 in Blog

I’ve just come across Rafflecopter, the perfect example of something I never knew we needed until it was there. The ‘easiest way to Create, Run, & Enter online giveaways’, Rafflecopter helps bloggers and site owners create competition entry widgets, with entrant earning extra entires just by sharing the competition on Facebook or following the blog on Twitter. Then, when the closing date comes, it allows you to easily separate the fans from the cheaters and picks a winner at random. Not just great for the organisers, Rafflecopter also seems pretty nifty from the entrant’s point of view, with it easily linking to your Facebook profile or just [...]

White Water Watching

January 22, 2012 in Blog

Today we spent a long afternoon at Cardiff International White Water, photographing the dozens of people who were brave and/or stupid enough to don a wetsuit and climb into a kayak in mid January. I took many a shot, but as yet I’m not sure if any are really good enough to put into a competition. If I manage to salvage any, they will appear in the photography section soon. In the meantime, I’m going to go and get my hot water bottle, put on at least one dressing gown and sit by the fire in what I fear may [...]

Down the Bay

January 8, 2012 in Blog

I spent a lovely day at Cardiff Bay today with family, walking around in the cold sunshine for miles on end. Good food and some surprisingly lovely scenery, but I’m absolutely shattered now! Carrying a DSLR around my neck for the entire time will probably come back to haunt me in the morning, when I get all achey, though. This is a shot I took of the war memorial near the Senedd. A little bit of work and it may be a competition entry at Gwynfa Camera Club next month.

I’m having a very MERRY Christmas

December 25, 2011 in Blog

Merry Christmas everybody! I’ve had a lovely, lazy day, and I want to say a big thanks to all of you who have helped me through what has been a bit of a tough year. Especially those of you who contributed to this little collection under the tree…

# 319 // Ghostbusters!

November 15, 2011 in Blog, Thing a Day

Tonight I saw Ghostbusters at a special one-off screening at Cardiff’s Cineworld. I almost didn’t go, but I’m so glad I did! Released in the year of my birth, I obviously missed the Ghostbusters hype the first time around, so I’ve always known it as a bit of a ‘classic’. I’ve seen it countless times over the years, but (I’m ashamed to say) I was never much of a fan. It’s incredible the difference the ‘big screen’ makes to a film. I’ve never found it so funny before in my life – no doubt partly due to the atmosphere in [...]

# 304 // Attack of the Blocks

October 31, 2011 in Blog, Thing a Day

To celebrate Halloween, we decided to make use of our supply of Lego and make a short film. Originally it was to be a narrative but we found it quite difficult to find a story that worked and made use of our wide range of Lego Minifigs. During our research we thought it would be a great idea to spoof a 1930s Horror Film trailer which would enable us to not have to worry about a narrative and concentrate on making fun scenes and loosely tie them together… Read more on our behind the scenes blog, and see the video [...]
