# 304 // Attack of the Blocks

October 31, 2011 in Blog, Thing a Day

To celebrate Halloween, we decided to make use of our supply of Lego and make a short film. Originally it was to be a narrative but we found it quite difficult to find a story that worked and made use of our wide range of Lego Minifigs. During our research we thought it would be a great idea to spoof a 1930s Horror Film trailer which would enable us to not have to worry about a narrative and concentrate on making fun scenes and loosely tie them together… Read more on our behind the scenes blog, and see the video [...]

# 284 // Free LEGO – a tale of warning

October 11, 2011 in Blog, Thing a Day

The Sun have been giving away Lego for the past few days, but I haven’t managed to get my hands on any yet because you have to redeem the voucher from inside the paper that day, and I just haven’t taken the time out to go into town in the morning. As I was walking into work this morning, and was already drenched, I thought I’d hang around in town until WHSmith opened. So I wandered about and did some people watching; young shop workers, elderly shoppers and some workmen doing a rather politically incorrect impression of a Chinese man. [...]

# 269 // Vizualize.me

September 26, 2011 in Blog, Thing a Day

I’ve been having a bit of a play with vizualize.me, a site that lets you ‘Vizualize your resume in one click’ to create an infographic style version of the info on your Linkedin profile. Still in beta stage, I first had a look at it a month or so ago when I managed to bag myself an early access invitation, and I immediately saw its potential. The number of different themes is still a bit limited, but the concept is great, and I can see many people using vizualize.me to jazz up their CVs. I’m not sure if that’s good [...]

My Free Galaxy Tab

September 16, 2011 in Blog

Yesterday, I spent a fun 4 hours at Skylon restaurant on London’s South Bank, after travelling a not so fun 3 hours by car. A long car journey is made a lot longer when your only companion is determined to do impressions of Herbert the Pervert the entire way. As I mentioned last week, I was one of 10 competition winners to win an all expenses paid trip to Skylon (courtesy of Macworld and PC Advisor), with food and drinks available as we tested out the new Samsung Galaxy Tab. Other than the unfortunate Family Guy impressions, the trip there [...]

# 257 // New Car (…finally)

September 14, 2011 in Blog, Thing a Day

We have just returned from picking up our new toy; a ‘Lightning Blue’ Lancer Juro that will henceforth be known as ‘Juno’. It’s been a long couple of weeks with endless ‘delivery’ problems from White Dove Mitsubishi in Cardiff, but she’s finally here! Unfortunately, it does mean a sad farewell to my dear Colt Cabriolet ‘Mia’, who has served me well over the past few years. I won’t really miss the convertible part (it’s not like we get a summer) but she was like a little go-kart to drive, if a go-kart could give you whiplash. Bye, Mia! I should [...]

# 254 // Stories to Remember

September 11, 2011 in Blog, Thing a Day

I’m going to break the rules a bit with today’s Thing a Day. For the past 254 days I’ve shared ‘a thing’ that I have created, whether it be a design, illustration or photograph. Today, though, I’m going to share something that has absolutely nothing to do with me whatsoever, but at the same time is meaningful to me in many ways. And having been overwhelmed by the media attention for the 10′th ‘anniversary’ of the Twin Tower attacks today, I truly couldn’t consider letting the day go by without a mention in my own little way. And with the [...]

I’m a Winner!

September 10, 2011 in Blog

A couple of days ago I got some pretty exciting news… that I’m one of 10 lucky people to win an all expenses paid day out in London courtesy of Macworld and PCAdvisor. Next week we’ll meet at Skylon on the South Bank for food and drinks, while we test and review the Samsung Galaxy Tab. And the best part is that we get to keep the Tab at the end of the day! I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of London (sorry!) even just for day trips, but I’m rather excited about this one, and [...]

Avamys Fail

September 2, 2011 in Blog

I’ve suffered from hay-fever type symptoms all year round since I was a  kid, and have always been prescribed nasal sprays to keep on top of it. Last week, the nurse gave me Avamys, a relatively new ‘intranasal steroid’ manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, which is apparently the ‘height of technology’ in nasal spray terms. I’m sure that’s exciting to someone. Not so good for me, though. Having used it twice, I woke up on Sunday morning with a face like the elephant man and lips fit to burst. I quickly deduced the culprit, and sure enough, the paper in the box [...]

Dear Santa… the Wacom Inkling

August 31, 2011 in Blog, Illustration

I know I’m not the only person to be overly excited by the launch of the Wacom Inkling next month. I’ve never properly used a graphics tablet for illustrating, mainly because my co-ordination leaves me when I draw on one surface and the drawing appears on another. I may as well be trying to draw with my foot, such are the results. If I really invested the time in getting used to it, then I’m sure I could master the little devil eventually. But now, quite frankly, I don’t want to. I want one of these. Being able to draw [...]

Wedding Bells & Birds

May 6, 2011 in Blog, Slideshow

Now, I know I’m not what you’d call a regular blogger (I promise to rectify this!), but even I couldn’t let something like getting married go unmentioned. On the 16th April I became Sarah Churchill, happily waving bye-bye to the surname ‘Dummer’ forever. It will not be missed, I can assure you. The ceremony was held in the drawing room of Castell Coch, followed by a reception at the aptly named Churchill’s Hotel in Llandaff. I won’t bore you with the minor details; it was a lovely day all round, much merriment was had and it didn’t rain. A couple [...]
