The Letter Writers Alliance

February 21, 2012 in Mail Art

There’s been a dry spell with the incoming Mail Art lately, so I was even more excited than usual to receive this rather awesomely decorated envelope from the Letter Writer’s Alliance.  Inside was a vintage style membership card and a badge to show the world that I’m not entirely consumed by email. I also got full access to the LWA members area, where there’s loads of great vintage letter writing stuff to download, and many things I would love to be able to afford right now! Totally inspiring.

Valentine from afar

February 14, 2012 in Mail Art

Just over a week ago twitter friend D’Andhra Bascomb aka DE’BA Designs (@DANDHRA) put out a call offering a Valentines Card featuring one of her illustrations, and I jumped at the chance. She must have put it in the post rather speedily, as came all the way from Southern California and arrived this morning – perfect timing! I’ll be putting something in the post to D’Andhra soon to say thank you.

Mail Art Friends

January 20, 2012 in Mail Art

A package has finally arrived from the wonderful Jessica Gowling (@jessicagowling), and I never get bored of that excited feeling I get before I open her mail art. She’s always stupidly busy with all of her printmaking, exhibitions and the many other mail art pen pals she has, so I’ve been waiting patiently since August for another package full of loveliness, and she didn’t disappoint. With her new vintage typewriter, Jessica wrote a lovely note onto the title page of Sleepy Hollow (I’m sure I have a typewriter somewhere… to the attic!) Among the mixed ephemera was a selection of flash [...]

Handmade, Pay it Forward

September 1, 2011 in Mail Art

At the beginning of the year I made a ‘Handmade, Pay it Forward’ pledge on Facebook, where I promised to send something handmade during the year to the first 5 people who requested it, and in turn they would do the same. A few weeks ago I sent out some small packs to some old and new friends; Fritha (@moonbeatle), Abby (@abbyillustrator) and my beloved Krystle (@Mistyjedi). Inside were; a badge featuring my ‘Romance’ illustration, a pinup mini bookmark and some hand decorated wooden pegs; useful for untold crafty things. They seemed to like them!

Canadian exchange

August 29, 2011 in Mail Art

I’ve recently started exchanging mail art with Jessica Gowling (@jessicagowling), a particularly lovely printmaker and visual artist from Canada, my very favourite place. A couple of days ago I received my very first package from her. When I receive mail art, I find the couple of minutes between finding the envelope and opening it really exciting, while I wait to find out what’s inside. Jessica sent me a collection of rodent themed items because she knows of my love for rats. She has so many ‘penpals’ that I really don’t know how she finds the time to compile packages for [...]

with love from my secret valentine

February 14, 2011 in Mail Art

Valentine’s Day has finally arrived, and with it my Secret Valentine from Jennifer Babey. When the grumpy old postman (obviously having a hard day) handed over the parcel decorated in pink hearts, I got rather excited. It seems that I do in fact love surprises (as long as they don’t involve bungee-jumps or dangerous animals). Inside I found a letter, a wonderful large patchwork cushion cover and two lavender pouches, all handmade by Jennifer. I’ve never spoken to her, and knew nothing about her, which makes the whole Secret Valentine idea even better. Of course, I’ve now done my share [...]
