Mail Art Monday: Jubilation

June 4, 2012 in Mail Art, Slideshow

This week has ended with lots of parties and celebrations, with Union Jacks coming out of our ears. And, thankfully, my mailbox has woken from its slumber, with a number of exciting and inspirational pieces arriving. So without further ado…

OUTGOING

Jessica Gowling and Jeannine Saylor, both in Canada, received these Jubilee themed packages, packed full of Union Jacks, newspaper clippings and stickers. The main ingredients, though, were the medals featuring the official Diamond Jubilee logo, and engraved on the back with their names. The girls were really pleased with these, and I’m so glad they arrived just in time for the Jubilee celebrations.

Jane Smith in the US was the recipient of one of my embroidered cards. I’ve been getting back into these lately, and have a bit of a waiting list of people who’ve requested one, so you’ll be seeing more of these soon.

One half of Angie & Snooky (Angie Cope) celebrated her birthday recently, so I sent a little package to her made from a couple of comic pages, and filled it with an altered birthday card, tag, bookmark, a couple of arty slides and one of my recent plastic bag fusing experiments.
My first batch of fused plastic bags have been making it across the pond too! I tested one out first, by sending it to Rebecca Guyver in the UK, before sending the rest to my friends Diane Keys, Angie & Snooky, Nancy Bell Scott and KDJ, all in the US.

INCOMING

Jeannine Saylor sent me a sweet envelope full of Mail Art supplies all the way from Canada, and those colourful little circle stickers have already been put to good use on a few outgoing postcards.

Janine Weiss, like me, enjoys trying new things with her Mail Art, and this time she sent to me a painted card with hand stitching and felt buttons. Really bright and tactile.

Katerina Nikoltsou, known for her ‘bits of Greek blue’, added a little UFO this time – a photo of some pottery that almost resembles a cute little face.

Carina Granlund sent a wonderful metallic collage like a broken mirror. Really inspiring, and the silver scalpel wrappers were a nice touch!

A much richer mail art week than last week, and I’ve been making the most of the long bank holiday weekend by making lots of replies that I’ve been owing to friends all over the place. Postie’ll be busy on Wednesday!
